Through its health and wellness
initiative, PCOP/Shalom works in conjunction with the
Wesley Nursing
Program, Church
Based Counseling Services, and the
University of Texas
Pan American
to provide free health
screenings, health education and various other services to the
community. Our goal is to help
individuals and families discover and implement
lifestyles complementary to wholeness of mind, body
and soul.
Among other things, we offer:
Dance & Fitness (Salsa) Classes and Nutrition
Classes
A favorite event
is the annual Back-to-School Ministry Fair for Children.
102 children received school
supplies at our Back to School fair on the last day of the
Summer Food Program. The supplies were donated by individuals,
and the various ministries of the church each distributed a
different school item and information about their ministry.
Participating were the food pantry, Angel Food ministries, PCOP
Life Skills, Parents Helping Parents, Prayer Shawl Ministry,
Community of Faith, Youth, Sunday School and Wesley Nurse.
Pastor Bob was distributed information about the worship
opportunities in the church and took prayer requests while also
distributing supplies. Also on hand were representatives of El
Milagro Clinic, Clinica del Valle and UTPA with information
about health and wellness. The youth and Sunday school gave an
invitation to all kids to join our groups.
Children also received $1.00 haircuts, given by the students
from the haircut classes sponsored by Pharr Community Outreach
Project/Shalom, a ministry of the Pharr United Methodist Church.

Lunch was given to all children at no charge, and parents were
able to purchase their meal for $1.00. A total of 145 meals were
served. Door prizes were given, and a piñata topped off the
day’s festivities. It was a great day for all! |
